Touring Routes

Southern Tasmania is perfect for touring - so much diversity in one area. From the hub of cosmopolitan Hobart, five touring routes take you out of the city to top destinations in Tasmania. Each of these regions has its own magical flavour, a blend of history and heritage, wilderness, food and wine.

Hobart: Tasmania's capital city, Hobart - shaped and defined by ocean, river and its majestic mountain backdrop -is an intriguing blend of heritage and lifestyle, scenery and vibrant culture.

Rivers Run: Feel 'the Call of The wild' and follow the picturesque Derwent River as it wends towards its source high in the mountains and wilderness, and continue on to the tempestuous West Coast huddling in the Roaring Forties.

East Coast Escape: Pristine beaches, breathtaking ocean views, national parks, a nineteenth century island penal settlement, and boutique vineyards entice the traveller on this route.

Heritage Highway: Take a trip back in time along the Heritage Highway - a region of country roads, rolling farmlands, huge pastoral properties, sleepy villages and towns where church spires overlook English trees, Georgian facades line the streets, and stone bridges are reflected in quiet water

Huon Trail: The Huon Trail is a delightful journey of diversity and discovery - a region of waterways and wilderness; art, craft and heritage; orchards and vineyards, farms, forests and fishing

Convict Trail: The home of Port Arthur Historic Site and Richmond Village, the region encompasses a kaleidoscope of history, heritage, boutique wineries, clifftop walks, world class diving, deep sea fishing and kayaking.
